Editing Smart Box EV

These notes document the additional features of Smart Box EV and Smart Move software.
They should be read in conjunction with the Smart Box guide and the appropriate software guide for your machine.

== Smart Box ''EV'' ==

Smart Box ''EV'' differs from the standard Smart Box by including switchable motor output voltage and a program retention feature.

== Motor output voltage ==

The output voltage at the motor terminals can be switched to one of three ranges using the key switch on the side of the box.
We recommend that you select the voltage before you switch on power to the box.
''The voltage selection switch should only be changed with the motor outputs turned off.''

== Motor output protection ==

The current rating of the Smart Box ''EV'' is the same as for the standard Smart Box (see [[Technical Specification]]).

== Program retention ==

Smart Box EV can store the user's program when the power has been switched off.
The-box can then be disconnected from the host computer and when next switched on will run the program stored in its internal memory.
The following sequence should be followed to make use of this feature.

* Use the Smart Move software to create and test a project in the usual way. When Smart Box is switched on it will look for a procedure called ‘Main’, so the project must include a ‘Main’ procedure. This procedure will be run first.
* After saving your program to disk, close the Smart Move program by using disconnect, rather than the usual ‘Quit’ option. (On the PC version disconnect is on function key Shift+F10).
* The main procedure will now run automatically when reset is pressed or when the box is next switched on.
* To reconnect to the host computer simply connect as usual and run the Smart Move software. The software will load the program currently running in Smart Box. The program can be stopped in the normal way.

To reset Smart Box to its normal condition press the reset button on the back of the box twice within about two seconds.
This will reset Smart Box and clear the program stored within it.
This may be necessary if the box has apparently ‘locked up’ and the host computer cannot establish contact with it.
This may happen if the program you store in the box contains errors!
